The Sunshine Coast region has literally hundreds of local attractions and things to do (too numerous to mention.) Aside from its beaches, the hinterland is certainly another highlight of the Sunshine Coast region.
The hills are rich with history and natural beauty. Here you will encounter Montville, the mountain village boasting many unique craft shops (15 minutes drive from Nambour), the panorama of the majestic Glasshouse Mountains, the magnificent ancient, sub-tropical rainforest of the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve, tropical fruit plantations, eucalypt forests and rainforests once logged for precious timbers such as the beautiful red cedar. The region boasts a host of cultural events from concerts to plays, a range of cinemas and art galleries. Then there’s sport including international golfing events, surf carnivals, boating, world-class triathlons and championship bowls carnivals.
A few hours drive north will bring you to the world heritage listed Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. Fraser has extensive beaches, magnificent coloured sand cliffs, rocky headlands, scenic creeks, numerous freshwater lakes and a diversity of plant communities, ranging from low hinterlands to tall rainforests.
